Pedal the Cause

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer. It's even more important in our country today that we make sure we continue to fund scientific research and healthcare progress!

I lost my grandfather to cancer in 2024. He was a big deal in the international cycling community. I couldn't make it back to Northern Ireland for his funeral (streamed it from the call room while on call last year #residentlife). I did the 30-mile route in his honor in 2024, and upped it to 52 miles last year! This year I found out one of my very important mentors (literally couldn't have survived my PhD without him) is currently living with cancer, so I'm going to try for the 100 miles this year! Plenty of time and money to buy a real bike and train during residency - but I feel like I should challenge myself for my Granda, my mentor, and the many patients with cancer I will treat as a physician.
