The big St Louis cancer fundraiser Pedal the Cause is happening in Mid September and the Wash U Cardio-Oncology team including Josh Mitchell, Ron Krone and Tom Maddox is riding again to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
This is a particularly effective fund raiser, and we have now been riding for the last 5 years.
We are pleased to do this since the money raised is so important. All the money raised goes to support research related to cancer at Washington University, Siteman Cancer Center and St. Louis Children's so it all stays in ST. LOUIS. These funds have been used to directly support research so it can grow ideas that can subsequently be supported by major outside funding. The organizers estimate that for every dollar raised by Pedal the Cause, the researchers have generated $14 in outside funding and since 2010 this means half a billion dollars.
100% of the money goes to support research. The costs of the ride and charity admin fees are covered by corporate sponsors, Edward Jones in particular, and some registration fees.
