This marks the 5th year of my involvement with Pedal the Cause and thank you to everyone who has generously supported Pedal’s mission to achieve A World Without Cancer, by funding the RESEARCH that will get us there!
Since 2010, Pedal’s annual cycling event has raised $56 million to fund 285 unique, early-stage cancer research projects (30 projects this past year!) at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis - a Top 10 Cancer Hospital in the country, where 680 clinical trials are currently saving the lives of children and adult cancer patients, each and every day.
At a time when national cancer funding is still lagging behind the need; the private funds raised by Pedal are helping to fill that gap and keep the research moving forward. What’s more, the funds raised by Pedal are now garnering a 14:1 ROI from national funders who invest in furthering the projects we get started - this has made Pedal responsible for over $750 Million in cancer research funding!
What I experience every day as part of Pedal the Cause is how cancer affects us all, and how deeply personal it is. Nearly everyone has a “why” for their support - and that “why” is someone they know, they love, they have lost, or it may even be themself. Pedal gives everyone “something they can do” to make a difference - whether that is riding and raising money, or giving what you can.
My “why” for getting involved with Pedal was because I lost my mother, Barbara Gallander, to gall bladder/bile duct cancer, She was a young 67 - the same age I am this year. My “why” is also about a very special friendship I had with a little boy, Hudson, who endured an 8 year battle with brain cancer but lost his life last year. I feel pretty sure, you all have a “why” and I know how that feels, and I am sorry. This is “why” I ask you to make a difference by funding the science what Pedal believes is the “answer to cancer”.
A gift of $50 or any amount (100%!) will be invested in early-stage research for cancer treatments, trials, and even cures; for all cancers, for all people.

Pedal’s annual Ride Weekend is coming up on September 19-20, and we expect 9,0000 people of all ages to be riding - or - rooting for riders, and for cancer research!
Our granddaughter, Rose Royston (age 4) will be riding for the first time!

Stock donations and Donor-Advised Fund - When processing a DAF grant through a charitable giving account, search for the Pedal the Cause by tax ID (27-2233336). In the “notes” section, indicate the Pedal the Cause fundraiser you want to support.
