Hi, It's Marketa. I'm here to share my story and ask for your help.
This September, I'm riding the Metric Century (62 miles) in the Pedal the Cause Ride. I'm riding to honor the memory of three very important people in my family who we are actively grieving.
Christmas Day 2009. This was the day my mother died of cancer. August 2023, my aunt died of cancer. June 2025, my husband's father died of cancer. These were my favorite people, my most loved ones. They were the comics that made us laugh and made us feel loved. They were the smartest and kindest people I've ever known.
I support PTC because 100% of funds raised go to fund cancer research at St. Louis's own, Siteman Cancer Center & Siteman Kids. I think that is incredible. "LOCAL EFFECT. GLOBAL IMPACT."
My mother came to Siteman in 2009, after her breast cancer returned a second time. She had just begun treatment but it was too late; her immune system was depleted. A day or two before Christmas, she went into the hospital. Before we knew it, she was intubated. I never had a chance to say goodbye. I was 21 years old. She never awoke and passed on Christmas Day.
Enough is enough. We have experienced enough grief and loss. We can do something NOW to fund cancer research. Please click the Donate button and give whatever you can. The requirement to ride is $500, but I want to do more. I've committed to raise $750 this year. Next year, it will be $1000. I will never stop!
