Bob and I will be hopping back on our cancer curing bikes on Sunday, September 20th, to ride in our 15th Pedal the Cause. We will again be tackling the 30-mile course with our team, Bill Box's Blue, Red and Grey.
Pedal the Cause provides funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital, but that research can save lives around the world. Since 2010, Pedal the Cause has raised over $51 million and funded 255 cancer research projects - and we'll keep raising more because our goal is A World Without Cancer!
This year is my third year riding as "Living Proof," after having been diagnosed in July 2024 with breast cancer. I underwent lumpectomy surgery and radiation and continue my treatment to prevent recurrence. I am grateful for the excellent care I've received from the great physicians and other professionals at Siteman - based on our long history supporting Siteman through Pedal the Cause, I would not trust my care to anyone else!
As I've shared in the past, cancer has impacted our lives in many ways. We lost Bob's mom to ovarian cancer in 2022. His dad had survived both prostate cancer and colorectal cancer. In 2023, we rode in memory of my friend’s husband who died in October 2022 after a 4-year fight against cancer. We've had too many other friends, colleagues and family members over the years whose lives have been impacted by cancer, including my melanoma diagnosis in 2010. We ride each year with the hope that the research funded by Pedal the Cause will ultimately lead to a cure for all cancers.
I’m proud to have raised almost $22,000 for Pedal the Cause over the past 14 years and am ready to raise more! I'm aiming for another yellow jersey this year by raising over $2,500.
