Pedal the Cause

I’m riding for two incredible women who have touched my life in ways I can’t fully put into words: my Aunt T and my grandmother, Tata.

Both were one of the “lucky ones.” Their cancers were detected early, but I think there’s a perception that if cancer is caught early, it’s not that hard. The truth is, it still changes your life. There are infusions, surgeries, appointments and uncertainty that weren’t part of your life before.

My grandmother was 84 when her cancer was detected and had to undergo major surgery. Thankfully, she’s a strong Puerto Rican woman with some very good genes, and she has recovered incredibly well.

And Aunt T… many of you who know me know her. She is one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever met. She has had a profound impact on my life and our family, and I am so grateful she is in my life.

So I ride for them. I ride for their strength, their smiles, and everything they’ve taught me. And I ride for everyone whose life has been touched by this terrible disease.

Cancer sucks. Even when you’re one of the lucky ones.
