Pedal the Cause

Minutes after I signed up for this year’s Pedal the Cause, friends and relatives started to donate. I hadn’t even had time to update my “story” from last year’s event.  When I mentioned this on my Facebook page, one of my sponsors said, “John, that’s alright, we already know your story.” That brought a smile to my face!

I have pancreatic cancer.  The average pancreatic cancer patient lives only 3-7 months after diagnosis.  I’m nearing seven years. Lucky seven, eh?

Those seven years have not been a walk in the park. I have suffered a lot. I cried when fellow patients died. I can tell you what it is like to dash to the ER at zero-dark-thirty. My cancer has returned multiple times. Two years ago, there were no more standard therapies left for me. Fortunately, my oncologist found a Barnes Hospital clinical trial that I qualified for and she enrolled me. I have the specific genetic mutation that their experimental medicine is targeting.  

Clinical trials give you HOPE, but they do not run on hope. They run on cash.  Please consider helping me by donating to Pedal the Cause.
