Pedal the Cause

My husband, Paul, spent the entire year of 2019 fighting cancer (leiomyosarcoma)....surgery (2), radiation and chemo.  After that, it was pretty smooth sailing for about 5 years.  He had regular check ups and scans.  In the fall of 2024, the treatment started again.  He has pesky little cancerous nodules that won't completely go away.  So, again, a surgery and some radiation.  2025 was more chemo....it was not as severe as the first time, but no picnic either.  I often describe the experience as a roller coaster ride, quick curves, scary hills, and fun rushes when you get good news.  We have been riding bikes for around 20 years together, some rides are good, some are rainy or hot, sometimes you fall and get hurt.  When we learned about this organization we knew we had to participate.

The doctors and staff at Siteman Cancer Center are nothing less than angels.  Paul has had a team there since he was first diagnosed, and we have been confident in the treatment he has received from the start.  His type of cancer is rare, and when he started on this road 7 years ago we were not sure how far he would get. The most recent chemo he received was a trial in 2019, so research is constantly changing the protocols people receive for the better.
