Pedal the Cause

You might wonder why I am riding 50 miles to raise money for Pedal the Cause. I love to ride my bike long distances, but this event holds a special meeting for me. 

Eleven years ago on September 5th, 2015, my father passed away from brain cancer at the age of 64. We found out about his condition after a seizure at church 10 years prior . It was shocking at the time. At 54, he was still a super fit guy (the first photo), serving as the assistant team leader on the Albuquerque FBI SWAT team. He ran 6 miles the day of his seizure, but it didn’t matter with cancer. 

He was fortunate to receive great care and lived a fairly normal life for several years. The cancer came back about 5 or 6 years later, but it didn’t become real to me that he was dying until he became wheel chair bound. I can remember crying on the plane ride home after that visit. I am very thankful that he got to meet Henry, his 1st grandson, while he was still lucid. 

I say all this not bum you out or guilt you in donating, but to offer you an opportunity to partner with me to fund research that will hopefully prevent future stories like mine. All of the overhead is covered by other donations so every dime that is raised in my fundraiser goes straight to researchers here in St. Louis. 

Regardless whether you donate, remember that live is short. Hug the ones you love while you can.
