Pedal the Cause

9 years cancer FREE!  In 2016 I was diagnosed with a Neuroendrocrine tumor (NET) in my small intestines/pancreas.  The journey started with routine annual bloodwork results prompting concern of my wonderful PA Micah Oakley who insisted upon further testing.  Within weeks, I had a Whipple procedure by an amazing Wash U surgeon, Dr William Hawkins who removed the tumor, a portion of small intestines and pancreas, my gallbladder, and several lymph nodes (8 were malignant).  Like many whom have had a cancer battle or known someone who has, the months of waiting and the unknown is debilitating within itself.  I was blessed to celebrate my 40th wedding anniversary that same year, walk our daughter down the aisle and then eventually hold and enjoy our wonderful grandchildren now 5 and 7.  Life doesn’t slow down for anyone and cancer impacts so many.  I will be riding 30 miles this year!
