Pedal the Cause

I am riding the Pedal the Cause in remembrance of my mothers and a friend that have passed since last year's ride.

In remembrance of my mother, Mary Louise Walker, who passed in August 2026 after her ten-year battle with ovarian cancer; my mother-in-law, Edith Gaffner, who passed in May 2026 after her battle with cancer; and my dear friend, Mary Anne Hughes, who passed in January 2026 from bone cancer.

It is also in memory of my father, the late Dar Walker, who was an inspirational caregiver to my mother throughout many years of her illness. All three ladies received treatment at Siteman Cancer Center.

As a tribute to my mother, mother-in-law, and dear friend, I will challenge myself to ride the Century Ride this year — 100 miles along the bluffs of the Mississippi River through historic St. Charles County. I'll be riding alongside the IMPACT Strategies Team, supporting one another every mile of the way, on September 20th.

The mission of Pedal the Cause is to provide critical funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital through our annual cycling challenge. It is our hope that the research funded by Pedal the Cause will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer. To date, the organization has funded 267 cancer research projects with over $56 million raised.
